Haunted server?
Posted on 2008-03-18 16:48:00 by Iron
Seems like our previous host is still haunting us! We had a 'cronjob' (automated task to run at specific times) running on our previous server to update the proxy list. This was working well until we moved, our new one didn't quite support Perl in the way our previous did: we had to rewrite large portions of the scripts that parsed logs and acted like cronjobs, such as the proxy one. Sadly, the proxy scripts were unfixable in their old format, so we had to rewrite them from scratch, something which hasn't been done (lazy? who?). Now here comes the weird part: the cronjob itself was removed of course, since it would only return 500 internal server errors for the Perl script. But, the cronjob and the script are still running! The Perl scripts are still nice, clean 500 internal server errors, so impossible to run, nothing can trigger them to run either. But apparently this doesn't stop our proxy list from being updated every night, at 3AM to be more precise. Exorcist, anyone?
